Story)
I have attained the knowledge and love for the game of hockey over a period of 40+ years. When the St. Louis Blues were added to the NHL. I was 9 years old. I grew up listening to Dan Kelly and his classic calls for the Blues for years. I followed the Blues with a transistor radio and listened to calls like the one on here. Like every
other kid in St. Louis I grew up playing baseball and soccer. We played street hockey and ice hockey on the creek by the house. I thought I would give my son the chance to play organized ice hockey so I started him skating at the age of 2 1/2. I skated with him every time he skated. After 5 years of skating and paying for private lessons for my son. I started teaching private lessons to beginner / intermediate skaters. I teach the game as well as I teach the foundation of the sport {skating}.
I coached or helped coach various teams that my son was on and some he wasn't on. I helped coach a very fun bantam team one summer that learned a "team" lesson. I was Head Coach for Lafeyette High school "C" team and associate coach for the JV team. I helped the Varsity Team as well. My idea for this team
came from experiencing the One Hockey tournament, in which players from all over are put together and form a team. My son joined the One Hockey Nationals 3 years ago. I coached Team One Hockey "America" the last 2 years. We won the tournament 2 years ago and we went to the semi final this past summer. The team pictured on this web
site is a direct result of friendships and selections I and others have made over the past 3 years. I spent 10 years meeting and getting autographs from hundreds of NHL players. I have my picture with various players and own about 60 NHL player sticks. I probably own 1500 autographs.
[see photos below]
My passion runs deep for the game and has always been there since listening to the early Blues games.
It's a great, fun, sport and I have learned that the players play better when they are enjoying it.
I will always encourage and instill confidence in every player I coach.
Midwest Selects Hockey is a
non-profit organization.

There
are a combined 11 First place trophys and 4 runners
ups awards for various leagues/tournaments including
a roller hockey team that Joey has played on. Joey won the
Hardest Slapshot award for a PeeWee Minor at the
Final Four in St. Louis and a playmaker and MVP award
given by 2 of his coaches. I attribute his
success for dedication to playing and having fun with
hockey since he was four. Some of the teams I coached or
helped and some I was just a parent. Hopefully there
is more success to come. Joey was named captain of
his current team. |
